Shredded Chicken and Peppers in Black Bean Sauce



There is a decent Chinese restaurant in my town, and they have a really delicious shredded chicken and bamboo shoots dish. From that, I discovered that chicken, when shredded and cooked in a sauce, is an almost perfect vehicle for the sauce, since it is such a bland meat, and that shredding vastly increases the surface area of the chicken. As such, I decided to shred some chicken one day. If you haven’t had shredded chicken yet, try it. Also, black bean sauce is awesome. It is pungent and packs in a good kick. Yums!


  • 1 chicken breast, shredded or sliced thinly
  • 1/2 red pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon fermented black beans, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil



In a heated pan, add oil and fry the chicken and onions until the chicken is half cooked.

Add the sliced red pepper, black beans, soy sauce and sugar, then fry until the chicken is completely cooked.

Serve and enjoy!
