On our last night in New Orleans, we decided to pull an all-nighter partying! Of course, there is no better place to be than New Orleans for all-night partying. Of course, I’m not the party-type, so we went walking around the French Quarter and along the Mississippi river. At about 2am or so, we were hungry again, and so we went to Cafe du Monde. You won’t believe it, but there was a short line even at 2am. The place was bustling (like the rest of the French Quarter), and it was refreshing to see alive and awake people having fun in the wee hours of the morning. I miss that since the last time I was out late partying was in my college days.
Cafe Du Monde is a world famous coffee shop famous for it’s French-style beignets (donuts) and cafe au lait. It has been open since 1862, and it is open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week (except Christmas.) It is cash only.
Beignets – 3 for $2.65: The beignets are warm, soft and delicious. It was topped with so much powdered sugar that my one advice is to NOT INHALE when eating it. It’s the single most delicious thing to have at 2am in the morning, and for less than a dollar a piece, it’s totally worth it. Also, I had two and I couldn’t even eat the third one. I’ll definitely be back at Cafe du Monde for more beignets the next time I’m back in NOLA!
The next day, I came back to Cafe du Monde for more beignets before heading to the airport, but the line was just so long! Looks like the best time to go is way early in the morning!
