Yesterday, Jas and I performed as part of The Gentlemen’s Very (Very) High Art Society of South Waltham at the Watch City Festival. The Watch City Festival is the largest Steampunk festival in the US, and the biggest festival held in Waltham. More than ten thousand people come to this festival from more than 30 states and 18 countries! Steampunk is a subculture that envisions the world that is still running on steam-powered machinery. It is a sub-genre of Sci-fi, but also incorporates Victorian and Neo-Victorian fashion since that was the time of steam.
We went there slightly earlier just to check out the festival, and saw many other people in cool costumes. There was food, shops selling steampunk gear (and others not selling steampunk gear), an old-fashioned forge, some cart organs (are those what they’re called?) and other cool stuff. Walking around was probably the most fun bit, because people were all dressed up in steampunk gear! Some of the pictures below are mine (watermarked), and others I ‘stole’ (with permission) from Lauren of Much Ado About Somethin’.
