We headed to Levain bakery on a very rainy afternoon because our friend Robbie said that it was ‘the best cookie in the world.’ I was very skeptical because I’ve had many cookies in my lifetime, some of them very good cookies. How is this cookie so much better than the other cookies I’ve had in my lifetime?
So we got to Levain, and there was only a display shelf with about a dozen different baked goods. They have four types of cookies – chocolate chip walnut, oatmeal raisin, dark chocolate chocolate chip and dark chocolate peanut butter chip, and the rest of their selection is on their website. We visited the location at Harlem, but there’s a closer-to-town one on the Upper West Side, and another one in Wainscott, NY which is way the fuck out there in Long Island.
Everything’s displayed in the display case. In their Harlem location, they bake the scones and non-cookie goods once a day, in the morning, so head there early if you’re looking for the non-cookies! They do cookies all day because it’s so good and everyone buys them!
We got the chocolate chip hazelnut cookie. Yes, just one cookie, because it was huge! It was the size of my palm and super thick! One cookie had enough calories for two fatties! Also, Robbie said that the chocolate chip hazelnut is probably the best cookie there.
Chocolate Chip Hazelnut Cookie – $4: As you can see in the picture, the cookie is huge! It was an understatement when I said that it was the size of my palm. It’s obviously larger than my palm! It is such a good cookie, and I can very confidently that it is indeed the best cookie I’ve ever had! Man, there is so much chocolate chips in there that the chocolate just oozes out when you bite into it. The hazelnuts give a good crunch and nutty flavor, and the batter is oh so perfect. Should I have gotten more than one cookie for the both of us? Yes. Should we have gotten more than one cookie for each of us? Hell yes! Am I probably going to fat up and die? Probably! But hey, it’s only once in a lifetime that you spend $4 on a single cookie that is worth every cent of that $4. It’s perfect. I want more!
