Went to El Potro Mexican Bar and Grill because we bought a Groupon for the place. When we got there, there were only two other tables, and only one waitress who did everything – mix your drinks, serve and take orders. She was running in and out of the kitchen, so I won’t be surprised if she was cooking too!
Our food took a long time to come (about 30 minutes) for a place with only three tables. The server was nice, and the interior decoration was so cute too. I really liked the vibe, but wish that our food came sooner. We had to chow down in 10 minutes (did not happen, and packed a bunch of food) and flee (yes we did pay our tab and left a huge tip!)
Each chair was painted and carved. The tables were individually painted too.
Tortilla chips and Salsa – complimentary: The salsa was not that great. It was a little underseasoned for me, and the onion chunks still clumped together. Tortilla chips were okay, but also didn’t taste as fresh as some other tortilla chips at other Mexican joints we’ve been to.
Steak and Chicken Fajita – $16.95: This steak and chicken fajita set came with a lot of food! Rice, beans, salad and a ton of onions and peppers. The beef and chicken were also under seasoned and rather tasteless, and the chicken was a little on the overcooked side for me. Probably won’t order this again.
Beef Enchilada – $13.95: This was pretty tasty, and the enchiladas were pretty stuffed with meat. The green sauce was delicious too. It said on the menu that this was supposed to come with guacamole, but I was not served any.
Here is the boy waiting for his food.
Overall, I felt that the food at El Potro was decent, but not great for the price. For much cheaper and much better Mexican food, head to Taqueria El Amigo in Waltham. So much more bang for your buck!
