Headed to Blackbird Cafe to have dinner with my friends Wennie and Cheryl. We haven’t met in about a year, and it was so nice to see everyone again! We headed there because it was close to Cheryl’s work!
The atmosphere was very chill and minimalist, and there was also outdoor seating too, if you are into that sort of thing. We were inside because it was just too hot to be outside! Our waiters were attentive, and made special effortto put out food for everyone at the same time, a gesture that is much appreciated by me!
Chicky Salad (Chicken on mixed greens with cherry tomatoes and avocado, with calamansi vinaigrette dressing) – $14.50: The chicken was tender and well seasoned. The calamansi vinaigrette was absolutely delicious, albeit a little on the oily side.
Berry Merry (Rosemary chicken breast with brie and cranberry sauce on Turkish bread) – S$13.80: Excellent sandwich. The bread was toasted to perfection, and the combination of chicken, brie and cranberry sauce reminds me of Thanksgiving! The chicken was delicious and tender, though I would have liked a stronger brie instead. Still, a really good sandwich! The salad that came with it was also well dressed (less oily than the chicky salad), and was a good textural contrast to the sandwich. [Note: I think they served me my sandwich on ciabatta bread instead of turkish bread – oh whatever, it was good.]
B.L.A.T. (BLT with avocado on ciabatta bread) – S$15: The bread was nicely toasted and was probably the best part of the sandwich. The bacon was not at all crispy, and therefore made it difficult to bite into. The tomato was not very juicy either. I would order the Berry Merry over the BLAT – for sure!
The food is good, and the service is also attentive. I’ll be back for more! (Heard from an ex-student that the risottos are good!)
