Singapore Eats: Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow @ Old Airport Road Market and Food Center / Kallang

Even more food from my cousin’s enlistment party! My mum decided that if we are at Old Airport Road Food Center, we must get Lao Fu Zi Char Kway Teow! That’s a little strange considering that we live a walking distance away from the Hill Street Char Kuay Teow (still my best char kway teow on the island.) Anyway, Lao Fu Zi comes in a not-so-close second, but it does have the oh-peh leaf (or opeh leaf, which is from the Betel Nut Palm) which does enhance the flavor of the noodles a little.

The lines are long, so be prepared to wait. Unlike the Hill Stree Char Kuay Teow, they allow people to order and come back to get their order, which is much better than standing in line for ages…

Char Kway Teow – S$5: Good char kway teow! It’s oily, it’s black and it’s fragrant. There is more veggies than my Hill Street char kuay teow, which is awesome, and in general, there is just more of everything like chinese sausage, fish cakes and tow gay (bean sprout!) The one thing I wish there was more of is egg! I love my char kuay teows eggy and black. If there were more eggs, this would be my #1 char kuay teow on the island!
