So after sending my brother Lenny off at the airport (he was flying to San Diego to start school), my family headed to Toa Payoh Vista Market because my dad wanted to take us to a breakfast place that he and his other buddies go to.

When we got there, the lines were really long, and it was hard to find a table for seven. We managed to do it eventually, and added some stools that were around! Despite long lines, you really have to go early, because if not, it’ll get all sold out!

Century Egg (with Pork) Porridge – S$3: The porridge was absolutely delicious! It’s the cantonese cooked-till-almost-a-paste type of porridge, which I like. There was a fair bit of pork and century egg in there, though one could be disappointed at the century eggs. They’re just pretty regular, not your usual cantonese ones that are very tender and uber-giggly! It comes with thinly sliced ginger too!

Fish Porridge – S$3.40: Same porridge as above, but with fish instead. Good too!

Boat Style (Ting Zai) Porridge – S$3.40: My favorite of all three because it has literally everything in it. A lot of condiments in this – pork, fish, pig skin etc. Order this one if you like your porridge with everything!

Yam Cake – S$1.80: This was a delicious, smooth and soft yam cake that had a light aftertaste of dried shrimps. YUM! The sauce was sweet and had some tang to it, which is lovely. For the price, you really can’t beat it. Yum!

Long Glutinous Chicken Rice (Lo Mai Kai) – don’t know how much: This is where the money is at. If you think you’ve had good lo mai kai, then you really haven’t, because as much as I love lo mai kaiI’ve never had it this good. Stuff with mushrooms, chicken, dried shrimp and some sort of sauce/filling in the middle. Best lo mai kai ever. You bet I’ll be waiting in line again!

I heard that he has nice pork ribs rice and chicken and chinese sausage rice too! Will definitely try it next time!
