Bacon Fat Brussels Sprout


So, this post is really not mine. I borrowed Jas for this week’s challenge, and made something that uses only things he hated as a kid. Until few months ago, Jas hated bacon. He didn’t really hate bacon per se, because he never knew what bacon tasted like. He never really had bacon growing up, then convinced himself that bacon is so incredibly horrible for one’s health, that he made himself believe that he hated bacon. Of course, things changed when I slowly tempted him with my house special carbonara. There you go, everyone loves bacon. It is the best thing in the world!

The other thing that Jas hated as a kid was brussels sprouts. Yup, it is another thing he decided to try just a few years ago, and while he doesn’t love it, he would eat it without complaining now. However, with the combination of bacon fat and brussels sprouts, he happily ate the brussels sprouts and agreed that they were god. I think bacon fat saved the day! (I usually keep a jar of bacon fat in the fridge because bacon fat is awesome.)



  • 3 tablespoons bacon fat
  • 1/2 pound brussles sprout, washed and cut into halves or quarters
  • salt and pepper to taste



Melt the bacon fat in a cast iron skillet, then fry the brussels sprouts until browned.

Just before the sprouts are cooked (they turn into a beautiful green and are slightly softened,) add some salt and black pepper to taste.

Serve and enjoy!
