Boston Eats: Wild Willy’s Burgers @ Watertown

Wild Willy’s is one of our favorite places to grab a bite when we head to Target. It’s a fancied up burger and fries joint that has a few locations in the locale. We started going there a long time ago, but recently (as of two years or so ago), they started giving consumers choices for beef. They now offer patties made from grass fed beef, all natural beef and ‘regular’ angus. To be honest, we tried all the different beefs and had a taste test, there was not much of a difference between all of them other than the grass fed had a slightly (very very slightly) beefier aftertaste.

Anyhow, having options are fun, and we like their rootbeers too. The restaurant is decorated in a cowboy/pasture theme, and has booth. It is kid-friendly and really fun!

The menu is on the chalkboard. You order, you get a number, and they send your order to you. Simple!

They have an old school car in the restaurant – fun!

Like I said, pasture-themed. These were murals of plains on the wall – so American!

J is waiting for his food!

Choice #1 – Grass fed beef. Each burger is $9.95, without fries or drinks. It’s pricy.

Choice #2: All Natural beef! Priced at $8.95 per burger.

Choice #3: Certified Angus Beef – I have no clue what this actually means, but each burger costs $7.95.

This is how your order arrives – just like at a fast-food restaurant – on a tray!

Willy Burger: It is a plain burger that you pick the toppings for. This one had cheddar and sauteed onions – simple choice. Very good! The beef was well cooked and had little crispy bits on the outside – I love those crispy bits!

Wicked Good Burger: The Wicked Good burger comes sauteed onions and mushrooms with Swiss and Cheddar cheeses. I like the doubling up of cheddar and swiss because Swiss is mild and has a slight bitterness that contrasts well with the sharp cheddar. The mushrooms keep falling off this burger, but I like it. The buns are toasted perfectly.

Bubba BBQ Burger: The Bubba BBQ burger is one of my favorite burgers. It comes dressed with zesty BBQ sauce, hickory-smoked bacon, Cheddar cheese, onion, and pickles. I usually skip the pickles because I just hate them, but the BBQ sauce is really good. Sometimes the bacon is crisp, but other times, it is not so. Well, still a good burger!

Fries – $2.75: Good and slightly crisp. I would have liked to have them crispier, but I’m sure they would be happy to do so if I asked. A little salty!

Sweet Potato Fries – $3.25: Good sweet potato fries. I prefer these to the potato ones.
