Boston Eats: Sushi Box @ Waltham

It is a rare opportunity to have J around during lunch hour. We decided to try out Sushi Box since we passed it so many times, but never made an effort to head in. The reviews were mediocre, the prices were not fantastic, and the menu was not that interesting either. Well, we made it one day, and was a little disappointed that it was a place we wouldn’t have minded missing. 😦 Good thing Sakura, the new sushi shop off Moody Street, is awesome!

Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box – $9.95: The bento box is surely one thing that Sakura doesn’t have (and should have!) This one was packed with a ton of food, but some of it was definitely strange. For example, what is a pile of cold flat rice noodles doing in the corner of the box? That looks like leftovers from last night! *eww* Tasted bad too – the noodles were very flour-y. Also, what’s the deal with a pile of rice next to three pieces of California maki? Anyhow, the chicken teriyaki was not very flavorful, and since it was chicken breast, it was a little tough too. All in all, good variety, but not great food. Unfortunately.

Rainbow Special Maki – $9.95: California roll topped with tuna, salmon and white fish (what is white fish?) This is a teeny tiny maki roll! The fish used were okay. I don’t think they were the freshest, but they didn’t stink either. It was okay, but was expensive at almost $10.

Same roll from a different perspective. Mostly avocado and cucumber. They sliced the surimi crabstick in half? A third? Geez!

Plain Udon (side size) – $5.95: Meh. The broth was not very flavorful. Can’t really go wrong with udon noodles in broth. Meh-
