Yet Con is just across the street from Chin Chin! I’ve passed by this place countless times on the way to Chin Chin, but only once went in when I was with other friends. It always looked dingy from the outside with it’s peeling paint and glass that is no longer transparent. Yet Con was founded in 1940, and it seems nothing has changed in the 75 years since.
This is a bowl of chicken soup they serve almost immediately after you take your seats. Yum!
Here’s a whole chicken. The chicken at Yet Con is not like the big overfed chickens you usually get at the market. These are more like the kampung chickens that are smaller, tougher and gamier, but has so much more flavor! Like! Is it better than the soft chicken that is moist and squishy in your mouth, with the skin that is gelatinous and melts in your mouth? Well, it’s like comparing apples to tomatoes–they are different!
Here’s a kailan and beef stirfry. We figured that it would be a good idea to have some veggies. Quite good! Tastes like my grandmother’s 家常菜 or homecooked meal! The beef was rather tender, and everything was well-cooked, but there was not much wok hei in this. Tastes like something we cook at home!
