Headed to The Lobster Pool for a friend’s farewell party. We had been there before (two years ago, right after we got engaged!) and things seem very very different now. I read somewhere that there had been a change in management, and it is clear that things are going downhill. Despite that, there was a line out the door when we got there, so I guess others, like us, had no idea what we were in for until the food came. You may compare this post to my post from 2013.
Menu board! They updated it to be a chalkboard now…
Lobster prices for 6/20 was $24.95 for a 1 1/4 pound lobster and $29.95 for a 1 1/2 pound lobster. We were at Roy Moore’s earlier that same day in downtown Rockport, and 1 1/4 pound lobsters were going for $15. Needless to say, lobsters at The Lobster Pool are overpriced, thus we did not get lobsters this trip.
Lobster tank was still the same!
Some cute signs!
Fried Clam Strips (S) – $11.95: Overcooked and rubbery, and very bland. The batter became soggy after a short while. This was awful.
Lobster Roll – $19.95: The roll was tiny, and not filled with lobster at all (from the side, you can see how ‘far’ they filled the roll with lobster.) Fries were okay. It did not come with coleslaw, so we ordered coleslaw as a side. For the price, this was a ripoff!
We also shared some other mains/platters with friends, which I unfortunately did not manage to take pictures of.
Fish and Chips – $17.95: The cashier could not tell us what fish it was. It was incredibly bland and overcooked, and the batter became soggy after a while. We could not finish it. It was disgusting.
Lazy Lobster Pie – $22.95: The ‘pie’ was lobster meat and fillers stuffed in a quahog shell. If you know how big quahogs are, you know how ‘big’ this ‘pie’ is. Overall, it was not tasty as we could not figure out what we were eating. Sad disappointment.
Here’s us at the lobster pool!
The awesome tube that they had for smores is no more. This wooden log setup was not as awesome since there were open flames, and marshmallows kept getting burnt. The tube setup was good since there were no flames, only heat, so marshmallows did not get burnt.
The view remains the same! This is probably the only thing going for this place. Sad!
If you want to see what the Lobster Pool used to be like, here is my post from 2013. Since it’s a different management, I felt the need to write a brand new post, rather than update it like I usually do. I’m extremely disappointed with how the Lobster Pool turned out. I will discourage people from going there, and will personally not visit again myself.
