Maine Eats: Mike’s Clam Shack @ Wells

On the last day (Sunday) of our weekend trip, it was raining all day. I had wanted to stop at one of the lobster pounds to get lobsters, but these lobster pounds/shacks were usually outside and were not good in the rain. As such, we headed to Mike’s Clam Shack, which was a family restaurant, and kinda a mass-production/mass-service restaurant, since there were more than 4 dining rooms! Family restaurants and mass-service places aren’t my cup of tea, but this one was fine under the circumstances (rain).

A colorful placemat!

The menu! It was expansive and rather confusingly ordered.

Lobster roll and clam chowder special – $18.95: I guess this was a pretty decent deal for a sit-down restaurant, though the quantity of food was still on the tiny side. Filled me up okay, but there obviously were no leftovers.

Lobster roll! Pretty decent! There was a fair amount of meat in the lobster roll, and the lobsters were very lightly dressed with mayo. Some bits of the lobsters were overcooked though, and the bun would have been a million times better if it were toasted. 3/5!

One of the best clam chowders I’ve had! It was filled with so much clams and only a few cubes of potatoes. It was creamy but was not too overpowering. I really enjoyed it. If I had one thing to pick about, it would be that it was a tad salty. 4.5/5!

Bacon cheeseburger with fries – $10.95: They forgot the bacon slices on the burger and came back with it after a while. Looks and tastes like a burger, but J said it was a little overcooked for being medium. He said it was fine though, since it was a rather thin burger. They toasted the burger bun!

J has an emo look. Haha!

Now he decides to look dopey.
