My soon-to-be sister-in-law treated me to a meal at Kilo at Pact! She’s super hip and knows all these cool places to la kopi (stir coffee) and eat. She brought us to Kilo at Pact, at Orchard Central.
The place itself was very industrial chic. Think concrete everything with succulents and wooden chairs. Very modern and square!
Truffled Tai Yuzu Roll (crab, snapper, tempura flakes, truffle-yuzu dressing) – $18: The crab STICK (not real crab!) was rolled inside, and I couldn’t for the heck of me figure out where the tempura flakes were. That said, the truffle-yuzu sauce was quite nice, if you like the smell of truffles. I thought that it was a little overpowering for such a delicate fish (snapper) though.
Baby Eggplant (donburi sauce, mascarpone cheese, tempura flakes) – $12: My favorite dish the entire meal! This is the best! The eggplant (there’s at least 8 of them!) were perfectly roasted and the mascarpone worked so well with the donburi sauce. With tempura flakes for some much needed texture, they’ve got this down to a T.
Cream of Ebiko Pasta – $28: This is on Fridays and Saturdays only! This came with three huge prawns, skewered, peeled and grilled. The pasta was perfectly cooked and came with cream sauce already. Ebiko covered both the prawns and the pasta generously. Mix everything up, and you have a really rich, and I mean really really rich (c’mon, it’s cream and ebiko!) dish. I liked it a lot, but would have enjoyed something to lighten it up with.
Beef Short Rib Bowl – $18: Each bowl comes with radishes, sweet corn, avocado, sugar snap peas, cherry tomatoes, shimeiji mushrooms and wasabi sprouts. The beef short rib was very very tender and beautifully seasoned. However, there was not much beef in the bowl, which was a little bit of a disappointment. I think this was a play on bibimbap, but there was no sauce tying everything together.
Salmon Rice Bowl – $18: As above, but with a small piece of grilled salmon. The salmon was a little overdone for my liking. Also, the piece of salmon was really tiny!
Pork Belly Rice Bowl – $18: As above, but with Chinese-style braised pork belly instead. This was my favorite of the three bowls because the braising sauce of the pork belly really gave the rice some flavor, which was something really lacking in the other bowls.
Basil Panna Cotta – came with the $20 lunch set: Very light, very smooth and the basil was a very pleasant undertone. Loved it!
Lemon Pie – came with the $20 lunch set: This one had a more intense lemon flavor. There was not much lemon curd, but a ton of graham cracker crust! I think the proportions are a little off.
