Singapore Eats: Tiong Bahru Lor Mee @ Tiong Bahru

Headed to Tiong Bahru market with some old friends after our cafe-hopping did not work out. [Evidently, when you’re a local tourist, all you want is hawker food and the hipster cafes that are way overpriced just don’t cut it for your precious stomach space!] I haven’t been to Tiong Bahru market in forever, and hardly remember what’s good there, so I just followed the lines.

When getting hainanese chicken rice, we saw that the lor mee queue was very long, so we got some.

Lor Mee – $3: Unfortunately, not that great. The sauce was incredibly goopy, and I mean INCREDIBLY goopy. You’ll have your spoon in, and it’ll come out in clumps. Other than that, I really like what they put in the bowl–fried fish, homemade ngoh hiang, fried wanton, sliced pork belly etc. The innards are good, but I wish that the noodles could be coated more evenly with the lor mee sauce. Also, I would have liked more vinegar and you can add as much garlic as you need!
